roots

- Reinier van de Poll's interest in garden design can be traced back to his grandmother's beautiful garden in Arnhem, The Netherlands. Reinier's parents brought this Dutch garden heritage to the North Shore of Vancouver. Here Reinier witnessed a transformation of a tired city lot into a wonderful family garden while taking part in the weeding and raking.

The landscape career started with a job at a garden centre, where weekends and after school hours were spent serving customers whose plant and garden knowledge challenged Reinier to start a formal education in the field.

education

- Completion of the well-recognized Landscape Design and Horticulture program at BC Institute of Technology included a thorough study of drafting, design, surveying, engineering, horticulture, floriculture, landscape construction, soil and plant sciences. Reinier excelled by having several of his designs chosen in class competitions.

Attending a Summer Garden Design School taught by Britain's leading designer, John Brookes, further helped develop Reinier's design skills. The daily experience of having one's designs critiqued by Mr. Brookes honed the process of creating gardens of value and lasting beauty.

work

- Reinier gained valuable hands-on experience working for several horticulturists in West Vancouver's private gardens. The lessons learned by getting one's hands dirty would serve Reinier well in the future.

Acting as the Landscape Designer and Manager at Southlands Nursery provided Reinier with the importance of creating gardens of distinction. During this time Reinier was introduced to the world renowned plant guru, Thomas Hobbs.

An excellent opportunity was taken to join the design team at Blasig Landscape. Many years at this well recognized firm brought Reinier extensive experience in customer care and project management.

Van de Poll Garden Design began over fifteen years ago with a vision to create a firm that would be a synergy of Reinier's personable style, his seasoned design skills, and his commitment to the highest level of client care. The timing and vision proved right and Van de Poll Garden Design has become a well-recognized firm.
